This landmark film emerged from the vision of Bachtiar Siagian, a leftist director, writer, and thinker deeply committed to fighting against imperialist and colonial cultural narratives through his art. Unfortunately, the subsequent anti-communist violence during the New Order authoritarian regime resulted in the tragic loss of many of his important cinematic works.
