Monopolising Bali
On 20 May 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy unveiled MONOPOLY: Bali Edition through a collaborative Instagram post with the Vice Minister of Tourism herself, Balinese Ni Luh Puspa. Ni Made Ayu Marthini, the Ministry’s Deputy Minister for Marketing, highlighted the significance of this launch during the launch event at Maya Ubud Resort & Spa. She stated, “The launch of MONOPOLY: Bali Edition is an innovative step in promoting Indonesian tourism, through a creative medium that reaches a global audience. By featuring Bali on a board game that has been played by millions globally, we’re building emotional connections and sparking interest in travel through storytelling and play.”
She continued by expressing gratitude: “On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, we extend our sincere appreciation for the collaboration between Winning Moves and various stakeholders in bringing this iconic game to life in a version that showcases the rich culture and natural beauty of Bali. We hope more Indonesian cities and destinations will be made into MONOPOLY games in the future. We believe this creative collaboration will spark curiosity and inspire more travellers from around the world to discover and experience the wonders of Wonderful Indonesia.”
This exclusive edition is developed by Winning Moves under the official Hasbro license. The game allows players to acquire and trade properties such as the luxurious Maya Ubud Resort & Spa and Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach, the self-proclaimed ‘world’s best beach club’ FINNS Beach Club, and natural landmarks like Mount Batur and the Ayung River. Significantly, even revered spiritual sites and national park like Pura Luhur Uluwatu, Tirta Empul, Besakih Temple, and West Bali National Park are made available for purchase, mortgage, and sale within the game.
